DOVER – The Town of Dover is pleased to share that it has received a state grant to improve and preserve pavement on Route 109.

The $217,261 road improvements grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will support micro surfacing to extend the life of the existing pavement. Micro surfacing provides skid resistance, restricts moisture intrusion, and restores a uniform black appearance.

Work will be performed from the Medfield town line to the Walpole town line, about 2/3 of a mile, in coordination with roadwork on Route 109 in Walpole.

Additional work includes crack sealing and permanent HMA patching prior to micro
surfacing, adjusting drainage and utility structures within the roadway, repairing HMA driveways as needed and placing pavement millings to fill low shoulders and
stabilize the edge of the roadway.

The MassDOT Municipal Pavement Program provides support to municipalities to improve the pavement condition of municipally owned state-numbered routes and to find opportunities to improve safety and accessibility for all modes of transportation.

“The Town of Dover remains committed to maintaining and enhancing our roadways, and securing funding for this grant is a testament to our proactive approach in seeking innovative solutions with state agencies,” Town of Dover Director of Public Works Kevin McCabe said. “This grant funding allows our town to continue to invest in our infrastructure and demonstrate our dedication to ensuring safe and efficient travel for our community.”

Projects for the Municipal Pavement Program are selected by MassDOT each fiscal year based on pavement condition data, the proportion of state-numbered routes in poor condition in a municipality, and geographic equity. MassDOT works closely with selected communities to develop a scope of work for each roadway segment.
